Cowboys Notes
A liberal dose
September 08, 2007
IRVING -- Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman said he will test his injured heel in pre-game warm-ups Sunday night to determine if he can play against the New York Giants.
Newman, who has a plantar fascia tear in his right heel, did not practice this week but said the foot has improved each day.
'Hopefully, it gets better enough that I can play a little bit in the game,' Newman said. 'I don't know how much I would play.'
Newman will test planting his foot and cutting against a receiver running routes, allowing him to react to movements. Planting is the most difficult thing for Newman, who might need a pain-numbing shot before the game.
'What I want to know is how it is going to react the next week,' said Newman, who talked to reporters for the first time this week Friday. 'I have to be healthy for 16 games.'
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones believes Newman will be able to play. Coach Wade Phillips said Newman will be a game-time decision. If Newman can't play, third cornerback Jacques Reeves will start in his place.
Briefly
The Cowboys worked out seven players Friday, including former Texas Tech and Fort Worth Southwest wide receiver Carlos Francis, former Georgia quarterback David Greene and Desperados offensive lineman Terrance Dotsy.
The Texas Stadium parking lot opens at 3 p.m. Sunday and the stadium gates open at 4:30 p.m. Kickoff is 7:15 p.m.
