Cowboys hope bye, buys time for this season

IRVING -- The bye week for the Dallas Cowboys (5-4) has coaches reviewing the first nine games of this season and contemplating changes.
"I think there will certainly be some changes with new players coming back, but whatever changes we need, that's what we will try to do," said head coach Wade Phillips. "We're trying to do the best, best we can do to win, and part of that is analyzing what we're doing and part of it's getting the players to do it."
The Cowboys have six days off in a nine day period.
It comes at a time when some fans feel the team should be focusing more on football, instead of extra circular activities.
So is there such a thing as too much time off?
"No, there isn't such a thing as too much time off," says rookie cornerback Mike Jenkins.
"You have to understand the season, the grind, the physical nature of this game, these guys need a break," quarterback Tony Romo said. "Let their bodies heal and let their minds get away so they can come back refreshed and recharged."
"You've got guys who are banged up," said safety Ken Hamlin. "They can heal some of their wounds, but its just another opportunity to clean a few things up and get better as a group."
So whether the Cowboys have earned the days off or not is another question. But right now the team couldn't be playing much worse.
"Our schedule is pretty much the same, so it's not a whole lot of time off," said wide receiver Terrell Owens. "So we're going with what the schedule is."
Getting healthy players back, including guys like Romo will no doubt have an impact on this team. But it's how they respond after all this time off that will make or break this season.
