CARROLLTON - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismissed any talk that OLB Anthony Spencer needs to do some growing up after getting fined last season for missing a rehab assignment and then getting arrested in the offseason on an alcohol-related charge.

Spencer, however, didn't shy away from talking about the incident in Indianapolis shortly after the end of last season. Charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication stemming from the January arrest were later dropped.
Asked what he learned from the Indy incident, Spencer said, "To not be around certain situations, to keep myself out of certain situations. Every day you learn something new. Every year you get older and mature."

Linebackers coach Reggie Herring said he doesn't think Spencer will get into any further trouble.

"Believe it or not, giving a guy a lot of money does not make them responsible and mature," Herring said. "There is a growing process with each invididiual.

"I was surprised that it happened to begin with. I don't think there was an issue before that. You only get so many at bats in this league, and he just used one of them. And he's a smart guy. I don't think we will see anything like that from him in the near future. I think he's learned his lesson."
