OTA Practices Continue At Standridge Stadium

The Cowboys are nearing the completion of three weeks of OTA (Organized Team Activity) practices at Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium. The players and coaches are getting ready to depart for the nearby stadium for Thursday’s practice, the final workout of the week, which is open to the media.
The Cowboys will have three more OTA practices next week before holding a three-day mandatory mini-camp from June 15-17. After that, the Cowboys will be off until they report for training camp in San Antonio on July 28.

For today’s practice, it will be interesting to see the development of the young receivers, especially if some of the veterans are out. Isaiah Stanback will be out until the start of camp after undergoing surgery to repair torn meniscus in his knee. Last week, both Sam Hurd and Roy Williams missed some time of practice because nagging injuries.

That only opens the door for guys like Travis Wilson, Kevin Olgetree and Manuel Johnson to turn some heads.

And a similar situation is occurring at tight end. While Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett have the top two spots locked up, the third position will be an interesting battle at camp. But for now, the early favorite has to be rookie John Phillips, a sixth-round pick from Virginia. He’s getting a bulk of the third-team reps with Rodney Hannah (broken hand) out for a few weeks. The Cowboys also signed Scott Chandler last week and have rookie free agent Jamar Hunt in camp as well.

Those are just a few positions we’ll keep an eye on during this week.
