Mickens, Philips, Hodge sign deals

Source: http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/ar...ies-agree.html

First Victor Butler, then DeAngelo Smith, then Manuel Johnson and now Stephen Hodge, John Phillips and Mike Mickens.

Hodge, the TCU-ex, is moving from safety to inside linebacker and missed some time in the off-season with a calk injury. But the Cowboys want him to be a special teams' demon and I had a few people tell me he could be another Keith Davis.

Phillips was recruited by his position coach, John Phillips, at the University of Virginia. He is a smart, tough-minded guy who already knows both tight end spots. I see the No. 3 tight end spot coming down to him and Scott Chandler. Rodney Hannah has a chance too but I think it's one of the other guys behind Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett.

Mickens could be the Orlando Scandrick of this draft. A knee injury hurt his draft stock but he did not seem troubled by it during the limited time we saw him in either the rookie mini-camp or vet mini-camp. His 14 picks are a Cincinnati record and he is smooth.

Remaining unsigned are third rounders Jason Williams and Robert Brewster, fourth rounders Stephen McGee and Brandon Williams and fifth rounders Mike Hamlin and David Buehler. I don't expect any of them to miss the reporting date to camp on Tuesday.
