What a great time to be a football fan!

Last weekend was great for football fans, unless you wanted Michigan or USC to win! The Gator nation is happy with their berth in the title game against Ohio State. Florida did what they had to do on Saturday in the SEC title game and now they are next in line to try to unseat an Ohio State team that has been at the top of the polls since the season started. It should be a match-up of strength-on-strength because Ohio State has an explosive offense and Florida’s defense has been dominant throughout the season.

As a Naval Grad, that game is minor when compared to the Army-Navy game on Saturday. The Midshipmen won the big game 26-14 making this senior class 8-0 against the other service academies. I wasn’t able to attend this year but I was at the Naval Academy a few weeks ago and it was great visiting with the team. Coach Paul Johnson has done a great job with the program. Next up is the Meineke Car Care Bowl against Boston College.

Our Cowboys had a huge win on Sunday against the Giants. Martin Gramatica was popular with teammates and fans alike after his game-winning field goal. He validated Bill Parcell’s decision to change kickers - at least for one week. It was encouraging to see Dallas win despite not playing their best game. The Giants were playing with their backs against the wall and a team playing under those circumstances is always dangerous. In the end, the Cowboys had the Romo magic and that was enough.

I really enjoy watching Tony move in the pocket. He seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to escaping the rush. He keeps so many drives alive with his ability to avoid the sack and that was never more evident than on the long throw to Jason Witten to set-up the winning field goal.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Eli Manning really played well after being widely criticized during the week. Eli has had to deal with injuries and inconsistency in the offensive line, and the loss of his most reliable receiver, Amani Toomer. Eli is resilient though and he’ll be fine.

The Cowboys have another big one next Sunday night when the Saints come to Dallas. A win could go a long way toward a first round play-off bye. It looks like a fun month ahead as Dallas shoots for the division title. I not only expect them to secure that title, but to also advance to the Super Bowl against the Colts. Now that would be fun!
