WR Crayton is a restricted free agent
USATODAY Inside Slant
On the surface, what was not to like? Owens and Glenn became the team's first two 1,000-yard receivers since Tony Hill and Drew Pearson in 1979. Owens led the way with 85 catches for 1,180 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns. However, this is not just about numbers. It's about chemistry. Glenn is due a $5 million roster bonus in March. Owens is due $3 million in June. Considering Owens' penchant for weekly drama, not to mention his league-high 18 dropped passes, there is a chance he won't be brought back. And if the Cowboys don't make him a central part of the offense — which they didn't in 2006 despite the numbers — it's a colossal waste of money. Crayton is a restricted free agent and should get a high tender to return because of his value as the third receiver. Hurd proved to be a nice developmental prospect and Austin is the team's primary kickoff returner.
