Fasano, the rookie second-round pick, was a disappointment

Witten is simply Witten. Although he didn't make the Pro Bowl, he put up Pro Bowl numbers again, catching 64 passes for 754 yards and a touchdown. The best thing the Cowboys did was lock Witten up to a long-term contract extension before the season. He was due to become an unrestricted free agent. Fasano, the rookie second-round pick, was a disappointment. He was expected to come in and make a smooth transition — the Cowboys run the offense Charlie Weis uses at Notre Dame, Fasano's alma mater. Fasano was also a big part of the team's decision to go to a two-tight end offense. But Fasano wasn't ready mentally or physically, as the Cowboys had hoped. By midseason, they had scrapped the idea of using primarily a two-tight end set and went back to using the fullback for the running game. Fasano caught only 14 passes for 126 yards on the season.
