DMN Blog: First minicamp scheduled May 11

A tradition unlike any other

Not sure if the fine folks at Augusta National and CBS will sue us for stealing the headline, but the Cowboys could go back to a pre-Parcells' tradition and bring in their first-round pick for a photo-op on Saturday.

The question is timing. Sitting at No. 22, the Cowboys probably won't pick until 3ish, so getting a player from either coast to Valley Ranch in time might be difficult. The first-round pick could also be brought in Sunday for a look as well.

Roy Williams was the last to flash a smile for the cameras in 2002. Parcells did not want the first rounder to get too big-headed by thinking he was sooo great they had to fly him in on a plane. Of course, he did single them out in another way by having them bring him Gatorade during breaks in practice. Sadly, Bobby Carpenter will not be able to see another rookie take part in that tradition, unless Wade Phillips picks up on it. Doubt it.

Also, the Cowboys' first mini-camp is scheduled for May 11, not the weekend after the draft as had been the case.
