IRVING -- Cowboys linebacker Bobby Carpenter has a slight quadriceps tear in his right leg. He said he suffered the injury in the preseason finale against Minnesota Aug. 30 and an MRI Monday revealed the tear.

Carpenter, who returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday, says he hopes he can play through the tear and said he won't likely be 100 percent this season. He also risks fully tearing the tendon, which would end his season and require surgery.

"Hopefully, it is something I will be able to play through and continue to get out there and play more and more as the weeks go on," Carpenter said.

Carpenter serves as a backup to starter Bradie James and plays mostly on special teams. He has six special teams tackles.
