Donovan McNabb can still imagine what could have been.
Had he and Terrell Owens had stayed together.
Owens, whose animosity toward McNabb was the driving force behind his suspension and eventual release after the 2005 season, said in an interview with Time magazine this week that he regrets the way things ended here with McNabb.
He even said he ... misses him?
“I do regret some of the things that happened,” Owens said in the interview. “Donovan is a great guy. Honestly, I do miss being around him. I learned some things from Donovan. It was a bad situation, and if there were a way I could go back and handle some things differently, I definitely would.”
T.O. misses Donovan?
McNabb said Wednesday he and Owens, who left on such ugly terms, have spoken in the ensuing year and a half and addressed their differences.
“As years pass by, weeks, time, whatever it may be, you begin to dwell on the past a little bit and what could have been,” McNabb said. “We all know — everybody in this room pretty much knows — that if this thing would have continued for years, it could have been something special. Unfortunately, it didn't go in that direction.
“We've talked it out and communicated when we had the opportunity to and kind of put it behind us. That's the past, and we're just focusing on what we have to do with our given teams right now.”
Owens, now starting his second year with the Cowboys, also said in the interview that if he could play with any quarterback in the NFL, he'd pick Peyton Manning first and McNabb second.
Asked what he thought of that, McNabb smiled and said, “What happened to [Tony] Romo?”
