Cowboys Notes
A liberal dose
September 20, 2007
Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman did a little more during Wednesday's practice and might be ready to return this week at Chicago. Newman, who has a tear in the plantar fascia in his right heel, has been inactive the first two games after testing the foot in pregame warm-ups.
'We are a lot more positive as far as his chances this week,' Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. 'He moved around a lot better.'
Outside linebacker Greg Ellis (Achilles' tendon) was limited to doing only individual drills in practice and Phillips said he is coming along 'slowly.'
T.O. is fined
The NFL fined Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens $7,500 for his touchdown celebration in the victory against Miami. It stemmed from Owens using the football as a prop.
After his 34-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, Owens stood under the goal post and used the football to pretend he was filming. The celebration was mocking the Patriots' 'Spygate' incident.
CB Jones returns
The Cowboys re-signed reserve cornerback Nate Jones after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.
Jones, who plays nickel cornerback, leads the team with four special teams tackles. Jones was released to allow the Cowboys to sign suspended defensive tackle Tank Johnson, and Johnson was placed on the reserve/suspended list.
* * *
It's like they're trying to find any way to take fun out of the game. I'm kind of limited right now in what I can do. It's kind of hard to really understand the rules.... I'm like [Bill] Belichick. I misinterpreted the rules.
